Our son is really weird

I needed to go up into the attic to get some summer clothes, so I put Theo in his crib with a few toys. I could hear him playing happily and then it got really quiet. I climbed down with the box and went to see what he was up to. Oddly, he had become sleepy and decided to take a nap. I guess he was too tired to lie down, so he decided to sleep sitting up. Babies are strange creatures.

Theo's 1st bite!

We just finished dinner and what a special dinner it was! I had been a little bit frustrated all day because Theo just isn't showing any interest in eating big people food. He ate one bite (quite begrudgingly) of scrambled egg yolk at breakfast and 2 bites of yogurt (sweetened with prune juice, You should try it. It's actually really good and sweet and doesn't taste weird at all). That's all. I should probably explain that he normally only eats at dinner time, but that we thought we should start allowing him an eating opportunity at each meal. That way he can taste different things and see what he likes.

Well, dinner was a success! I had been baking a pork loin and getting everything ready for dinner when I realized that I didn't have anything to feed him. I had tasted the pork loin and it wasn't too spicy, so I cut up a few bits for him and put them on his tray. Andy offered him a bite and he took it! Willingly!!!! After a few more bites from Mama and Daddy he......FED A BITE TO HIMSELF! What a moment! He was full after that bite, so he didn't eat any more. It was the most he's eaten lately and the happiest he has been at the table.

We are very proud of his new skill and will continue to try to tempt his palate with new flavors and textures. Of course, mamamilk is still his very favorite and hopefully will be for a long time.

Camping with Theo and Todd

Well, we're home again. We left Thursday afternoon and drove to Anacortes to try to find a campsite at Washington Park. Luckily, we were able to get a spot for both Thursday and Friday night. We set up camp around 6:30 on Thursday and walked around the park. It is beautiful! There is tons of beach to walk on with crabs, tidepools, and driftwood. There are also trails to walk on in the woods and beautiful views of the water and islands. We didn't sleep too well that night because it was colder than I had thought it would be and we had forgotten our pillows! We tried using towels and sweatshirts in our sleeping bag stuff sacks, but it wasn't very comfortable.

Todd loved being outside and "protected" us by barking at anyone and anything that walked near our campsite. Theo spent lots of time in the Eden carrier on his Daddy's back. We hiked for a couple of hours on Friday and Theo slept on Andy's back most of the time. We were exhausted when we got back to camp and wanted to take a nap, but Theo had already taken his, so he played (very noisily, too) in the tent while we tried to rest a little.

Friday night we went to dinner at some friends' house who live in Anacortes. They grilled salmon and we had amazing strawberry shortcake for dessert. It was really fun to see them. They were also nice enough to loan us some pillows, so we all slept like babies on Friday night (including Theo, the actual baby).

We had lunch at a great Mexican place before we headed home today and are enjoying laying around in the house and doing nothing in particular. We would highly recommend Washington Park to anyone wanting to check out Anacortes for a few days.

Camping with a 9-month old was much easier than I had thought it would be. The hardest part was not having anywhere to put him down without just laying him in the dirt. We had brought his bebepod chair and it was a great place to let him sit and explore. Next time I'll bring a play pen for him to be in while we set up camp, cook, etc. All in all, camping with a baby is just as fun and relaxing as camping without a baby.....but it's much, much cuter and you have something great to take pictures of!

We're going.......

CAMPING! Andy has taken tomorrow off as his personal day, so we're leaving this afternoon to go camping! Theo and I are busy baking and packing up everything we'll need. We'll post pictures and a full report when we get home on Saturday.

Relaxing at home

Theo and I have had a pretty busy day of fun and work. I guess the work we do is fun, too, but I would definitely put it in a different category than fun hanging out with our friends. We're home now and enjoying some relaxing and playing with toys together. Andy will be home soon and then....I'm off to work again (teaching one class at the studio). I can't complain. We have the whole weekend to hang out together.

Mother's Day Weekend

We went to Port Orchard for Mother's Day Weekend and everyone got a chance to see Theo. We had a family picture taken earlier in the week as a gift for our moms (thanks again Taylor!). They loved it. All in all it was a fun, relaxing weekend and we even came home early enough to go to bed at 9:15! Visiting family always wears us out (they all stay up too late!). This was my 1st Mother's Day and I felt, and still feel, very appreciated and loved. At my house, every day must be Mother's Day because Andy and Theo take such good care of me and make me feel special.

Bath Boy

Theo still likes his bath. It's always a toss up as to whether or not he's going to play in the tub or scream and cry. This time, luckily, he decided to play with his toys and have fun. I, of course, still have to be in the bathtub with him, but I don't mind anymore. It's just the way things have to be. When he's grown and doesn't want me to snuggle and cuddle him anymore, I will have to remember these things that felt like sacrifices at the time. He's holding his favorite tub toy; a little red and white boat that you can wind up. He's also a big fan of toys that squirt water, but he still hasn't quite figured out where the water is coming from.

What's it tooth ya?

Theo has 2 teeth! I guess "has" is saying it a little too plainly. Perhaps I should say, Theo is getting 2+ teeth. He has 2 teeth that have erupted (the goofy, technical word for "somehow made their way through the gums") and several more lumpy places where teeth will come through sometime soon. He has not taken a bite out of me (yet) and hasn't changed the way he nurses at all (hopefully not TMI for you). We are enjoying his new, much sillier grin and lamenting that he is definitely growing up. Now we have to start the job of brushing these 2 tiny teeth. I'm sure he'll love that!
