A Real Date!

Andy and I are going on a real date today! A few students from his 8th grade class (and a few moms, too!) are going to take care of Theo so we can go out to a nice dinner. I got a dress (from Goodwill...nothing fancy) and we have a gift certificate to a nice place downtown. We will be leaving in about an hour and I am so excited. It's nice to know that Theo will have a great time with all of those girls doting on him while we're gone.

We've had a pretty relaxed Saturday. I made cute cookies for the Palm Sunday bake sale tomorrow. The 5th/6th grade class at church is raising money to buy fruit trees for low-income women in Mozambique. One of our church members is a missionary there. I think the cookies turned out well and I hope the kids raise lots of money.

Well, I need to go get Theo all packed for his fun afternoon/evening. We'll be away from him for 4 hours, so we have to have lots of extra diapers and clothes just in case. Daddy and Theo are having fun practicing sitting up. We are excited to have some time alone, but we'll miss our little buddy, too.

Quick Healer

Theo was sick night before last and yesterday. He was awake so much during Wednesday night that I'm actually not sure whether he slept or cried more. It was miserable. He just kept getting louder, and louder and louder, and louder. Andy and I weren't sure what to do. We tried the usual suspects; nursing, diaper change, patting his back, rocking him, walking around. Nothing seemed to work. Finally I got out of bed and walked with him in the living room. Within 45 minutes he was finally asleep and slept until about 10:00 the next morning. He woke up stuffy, grumpy and unpleasant in general. Luckily he got happier and healthier as the day went on. Last night he had a miniature crying fit and was asleep within 20 minutes of me taking him into the living room. Just enough time for me to read an article on Mothering Magazine's website and put him back to bed. It was only 4am, so that means we got a lot more sleep than Wednesday night. I feel very rested and refreshed this morning. Theo isn't stuffy anymore and he is back to his usual happy, giggling self. He and Todd are just hanging out on his blanket and sharing his toys.

Like Father, Like Son

We've had a great Saturday so far and are just about to go for a walk and pick up a pizza, so it certainly looks like the rest of the day will be great, too. I interpreted a fun event this morning, so Andy and Theo hung out from 8:45am-12:30pm. This is definitely the longest I've ever been away from him. I was a little nervous about him getting hysterical, but it went very well. Theo played happily for about an hour, they went for a walk, Andy warmed some breastmilk for him and Theo drank it from his doidy cup, and then Theo went down for a nap. He'd been awake for about 20 minutes when I got home. What a precious sight coming home was. Theo was cooing and singing on the floor while Andy played songs for him on the guitar. Our life is pretty simple, but it's oh so good. Here they are enjoying the Nintendo DS. Well, I need to go get my shoes on and put the leash on Todd. We're doing great (but I do wish the weather would stop being so gloomy!). I guess I'll have to read this post when it's the middle of August and it's so hot that I think I'm going to melt! At least this year I won't be pregnant during the hottest part of summer. I'll be outside playing with our little boy in the yard. By the way...who wants to come help us put up a fence this spring???

Too long between posts...sorry

Sorry everyone. It's been way too long between posts. This baby sure is growing! He was 20 lbs. and 4 oz. when we weighed him after his Monday night bath. Bath time has become a fun activity for us (finally!). I wish I had some pictures of him enjoying his bath, but because I bathe with him.....it's not really appropriate! It's one thing to have a cute little picture of him splashing in the water, but I don't want to show you myself in that same situation. You understand, right? He has been waking up earlier (around 7:00 everyday) and still taking 2 good naps during the day. He just seems happier and more pleased with interacting with the world in general. People are still amazed when I tell them he's only 6 months old (almost 7!) because he's quite long and chubby for his age. We made a new friend this week who is his same size, but 5 months older! He continues to shock me everyday with the new things he does. Here he is playing in the bouncy chair (as you can see...he can't use it much longer...it almost touches the floor when he's in it!) while I shower. What a guy!

Percussion baby

Trying out Google video for fun this time. I also did this at 30fps rather than 10fps (the other videos have been at 10). Anyhow, if you watch closely at the beginning he flicks his wrist back and forth... pretty specific movement for a kid who usually just flails his arms and legs around!

Artistic Endeavor

I wish I could paint a picture of Theo, but I'm not that skilled. Here is the best I can do. It's a pencil drawing effect put on a picture of Todd and Theo from last week. I think it's pretty cute.

Theo helps with the laundry

I guess if we ever want some help around here, we'd better get this baby trained early! Theo loves to help fold the clean diapers. He is such a good helper and even when he isn't helping, he makes chores a lot more fun just by being with us!

Sitting up with his mama!

Here we find our young explorer sitting up and being entertained by his mother... He's getting better at doing this, but definitely needs to the pillow to catch any errant rocking and rolling!

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday!

I have decided that Saturday is my favorite day of the week. We usually get to sleep in (if we can) and we usually don't have anything going on until the afternoon (if we have anything planned at all). This morning we've already been pretty lazy. We woke up later than usual (8:00 for Andy and 9:00 for me). Theo woke up with Andy, but as you can see from the pictures, he is already napping again. He looks so sweet and small when he sleeps in our bed. His little, tiny hands resting together and an itty bitty string of drool falling out of his mouth....ah, it's perfect. I think the rest of our Saturday will be just as restful, rejuvenating, and wonderful as our slow morning as been so far.
Three Cheers for a Day Off!!
