Camping with Theo and Todd

Well, we're home again. We left Thursday afternoon and drove to Anacortes to try to find a campsite at Washington Park. Luckily, we were able to get a spot for both Thursday and Friday night. We set up camp around 6:30 on Thursday and walked around the park. It is beautiful! There is tons of beach to walk on with crabs, tidepools, and driftwood. There are also trails to walk on in the woods and beautiful views of the water and islands. We didn't sleep too well that night because it was colder than I had thought it would be and we had forgotten our pillows! We tried using towels and sweatshirts in our sleeping bag stuff sacks, but it wasn't very comfortable.

Todd loved being outside and "protected" us by barking at anyone and anything that walked near our campsite. Theo spent lots of time in the Eden carrier on his Daddy's back. We hiked for a couple of hours on Friday and Theo slept on Andy's back most of the time. We were exhausted when we got back to camp and wanted to take a nap, but Theo had already taken his, so he played (very noisily, too) in the tent while we tried to rest a little.

Friday night we went to dinner at some friends' house who live in Anacortes. They grilled salmon and we had amazing strawberry shortcake for dessert. It was really fun to see them. They were also nice enough to loan us some pillows, so we all slept like babies on Friday night (including Theo, the actual baby).

We had lunch at a great Mexican place before we headed home today and are enjoying laying around in the house and doing nothing in particular. We would highly recommend Washington Park to anyone wanting to check out Anacortes for a few days.

Camping with a 9-month old was much easier than I had thought it would be. The hardest part was not having anywhere to put him down without just laying him in the dirt. We had brought his bebepod chair and it was a great place to let him sit and explore. Next time I'll bring a play pen for him to be in while we set up camp, cook, etc. All in all, camping with a baby is just as fun and relaxing as camping without a baby.....but it's much, much cuter and you have something great to take pictures of!

Looks like you had a great time! Lucas is a crawling machine so I think we'll be waiting till he starts walking before we attempt a camping trip.
